This policy applies to HejTiger users under 13 years old ("child" or "children").
HejTiger is committed to protecting children's privacy. This policy is in accordance with the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA") and outlines our practices regarding children's personal information. Learn more about COPPA at the FTC (external link).
Prior to obtaining parent/guardian consent, HejTiger will only use collected information as permitted under COPPA, such as to contact parent/guardian. Information that is collected in order to obtain parent/guardian consent will be deleted if consent is not granted within a reasonable time period. Other information collected under COPPA exception will be retained only as long as necessary to fulfill COPPA permitted purpose or as required by law.
After obtaining parental consent, information is used to:
Information child shares with other children may not be kept private. HejTiger recommends parent/guardian carefully supervise child when the child participates in online activities.
HejTiger may share information with service providers if necessary for them to perform a business, professional, or technology support function for HejTiger.
Information may be included in any sale or transfer of HejTiger or HejTiger assets to another organization. Buyer or transferee will be required to honor commitments made in this policy.
HejTiger may disclose personal information if permitted or required by law, for example for child safety, site integrity, or to protect against liability.
In order to verify parental consent, in accordance with COPPA regulations, HejTiger may charge parent/guardian a nominal amount via debit/credit card. After successful verification, parent/guardian may use a "secret word" in future communications to confirm identity or a parent/guardian-verified method of communication.
COPPA allows teachers and school administrators consent in place of parent/guardian consent for the collection of personal information from children. School should always notify parent/guardian about such activity. For more information, please visit FERPA (external link).
Upon identity verification, parent/guardian can at any time revoke consent for us to collect further personal information from parent/guardian's child and/or delete from HejTiger records personal information collected in connection with child's account. Child is only required to provide this reasonably necessary information in order to participate. Due to the social networking nature of HejTiger as an online language exchange program and the customization required for the language learning platform, a refusal to consent to the collection of reasonably necessary information listed in INFORMATION HejTiger COLLECTS or a request to delete records will lead to the inability to provide services and the termination of the account.
As the security and confidentiality of children's information is extremely important, HejTiger takes a number of steps to help safeguard any personal information that children provide. However, no method of transmitting or storing electronic data is ever completely secure, and therefore HejTiger cannot warrant or guarantee that such information will never be accessed, used or released in a manner that is inconsistent with this policy.
HejTiger may revise this policy from time to time. If HejTiger makes any changes to this policy, HejTiger will change the “Version" listed at the top. These changes will be effective immediately upon posting. As a result, parent/guardian should periodically review this policy to remain up-to-date. By using HejTiger, parent/guardian agrees to this policy, and, by continuing to use HejTiger after changes have been made, parent/guardian agrees to changes.
If parent/guardian has any questions concerning this policy, please contact your child's teacher.
